About Lakes Region Kennel Club
Thank you for your interest in the Lakes Region Kennel Club (LRKC).
We are an AKC sanctioned, non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of purebred dogs.
Some of us are breeders, some of us are currently showing our dogs in Breed, Obedience or Agility, and some of us simply enjoy participating in pet therapy and other dog-related activities
or working at Club events. We all share a love of dogs and are interested in furthering the sport of purebred dogs through our Club.

LRKC Events and Activities
Lakes Region Kennel Club is a member club of the AKC. We offer many different events throughout the year. We will be holding our Annual AKC Sanctioned Breed, Obedience & Rally Spring Match in May.
Plans are underway for an Obedience & Rally Trial for the summer months. We also have held two AKC sanctioned Agility Trials. These events are pending AKC approval.
The Club periodically offers testing for the AKC's Canine Good Citizen program and for pet therapy certification, as well as obedience and handling classes which are open to the public.
Some of our members visit nursing homes and hospitals with their pet therapy dogs. We have also sponsored other activities such as Tattoo and Micro Chip Clinics as well as Eye, Heart and Rabies Clinics.
One of the causes that has interested LRKC for several years is the prospect of an off-leash dog park in the Lakes Region. Although there are many people willing to help once the park opens, the biggest hurdle for this project has been the acquisition of land. If you or someone you know has land they would consider donating to this effort, please contact us. Please read our Dog Park Report by clicking here.
This year we're very excited to offer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy class! This is an exciting new training program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. It's also an incentive program for loving dog owners who have taken the time to take their puppies through a basic training class. Classes take place at the Meredith Community Center. For detailed information on this new offering visit the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy page!
We are also offering Rally with our performance classes! AKC Rally is the new dog sport that is taking the nation by storm, a successful stepping stone from the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program to the world of obedience or agility. Rally offers both the dogs and handlers an experience that is fun and energizing. The canine team moves at their own pace, very similar to rally-style auto racing. Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but it can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition. For more information, please visit the AKC Getting Started In Rally page.

Pet Safety and Oxygen Mask Initiative!
In 2007 we started the Pet Oxygen Mask Fund. These masks are given to local emergency and rescue departments in the Lakes Region area to aid in resuscitation of small and large animals.
In 2009 we began offering the American Red Cross Pet First Aid classes to the public.
We are also looking into ways to educate the community in the area of disaster preparedness for pets.
To read more about these programs please visit the Pet Safety page.
For scheduled dates and times, please visit the clubs Calendar page.

LRKC Scholarship Fund
A portion of the profits from our Point Shows and Matches is set aside each year in a special fund from which, since 1971, we have awarded a scholarship to a qualified New Hampshire UNH graduate who has been accepted at a college of veterinary medicine.
To learn more about this scholarship or to see a list of past winners, please visit the scholarship page.
